So many women I talk to are afraid of using liquid eyeliners.
I understand that it can be scary at the beginning! A skinny little brush with a tar looking liquid on it that you’re supposed to expertedly line your eyes with. Delicately, Softly.

Now, I’ve been using liquid eyeliners since 9th grade, and now can put it on in the subway, on the bus, wherever, whenever! All you need is a little BALANCE.

Make sure that when you are applying your liquid liner, your pinky finger is resting on your cheek for balance. This lets your hand glide on your eyelid and apply the eyeliner where needed – and not all over the place.

Second tip is to line your eyelashes first. And by that, I mean apply the liquid eyeliner onto the closest part to your eyelashes, to fill in the spaces between the lashes. This not only makes your lashes look fuller, it makes your makeup look seamless.

Thirdly, create a little wing at the end of your eyes. This allows your eyes to look more awake, and gives you a bit of a sexy kitten look. Who doesn’t want some of that? ;)

The lucky bunch of the 20-something ladies with clear skin can get away with wearing just moisturizer under their foundations – or no foundation at all! But for the most of us that wear foundation on a daily basis, “simply moisturize” does not seem to be a rule that sticks. (ha ha, get the pun?)

Without using a primer under the layer of foundation, the makeup can look, well, just like the surface of your skin. This means all the little blackheads you may have on your nose, some acne scars from your would-love-to-forget teenager years, and any other little imperfections will show – alas in a uniform colour.

Primers work like a thin, sheer layer of silk over your skin – which makes applying foundation as smooth as a newborn’s bum. Also helps any makeup last longer.

Less re-application = Less “cake-y look”
Less re-application = Less money wasted
Less re-application = happiness!

I must say, I’m a firm believer (and forever lover!) or Smashbox primers. They come in a few different colours – a green base, a purple base, etc – which has their own advantages. For example, I use the green base coloured primer (which glides on transparent) – which counteracts the redness in your skin. Best for skintypes that tend to get blotched easily!

Smashbox primers glide on like those Glycerin hand creams… if you’ve used either, you know what I mean!

If you need a heavier primer, CoverFX has very nice ones as well.

What’s your favourite?

“Tracking the Credit Crisis” provides a timeline of the events that led to the current recession and translates the catchphrases of the economic downturn such as “securitization,” “liquidity,” and “derivative” for the average person.

I guess it’s a sign of the times. What’s next? Will clothing go out of fashion (yeah, right) and the sandwich board become haute couture? 180px-human_billboard_atlanta

When you look into the mirror what would you rather see; a smart, self sufficient woman or a beautiful attention needy knockout?

Recently, a poll conducted for U.S. television network Oxygen, found that 25 percent of those questioned “would rather win the “America’s Next Top Model” TV show than the Nobel Peace Prize”.

Ah duh – don’t they know beauty is everything and all the fame which comes with, imagined or real.

Gold digging 101 – marry for money or not?

According to the same poll, “half of the 18- to 24-year-olds questioned said they would marry an ugly man if he were a multimillionaire”.

Note: More than 2,000 women aged 18-34 were interviewed for the poll.

I like to think of myself as a pretty modern girl, hip, cool, open minded and all that….

hrp-4c-humanoid-robot

but robot model replacing the likes of Daria Werbowy, Kate Moss, or Naomi Campbell – No Way!

Apparently the HRP-4C has “battery-powered motors in her body and face, allowing her to imitate the expressions, gait and poses of a supermodel — up to a point”. I guess they are talking about catalogue supermodels, the Target and JC Penny Girls.

The only thing I can see the HRP-4C has in common with the real supermodels is the need to be thinner, since the 158 cm (5 ft 2 inch) high-tech model weighed in at 43 kg (95 lb), a slimmed down version from earlier versions just in time for her catwalk debut at one of Japan’s biggest fashion events.

Lately I’ve been taking a good look at everything I’m spending money on to see if there’s a way I can cut back without sacrificing quality.

I spend a fortune on expensive shampoos and conditioners at the salon because almost every dime-store product I’ve tried has left my hair either weighed down or looking and feeling like straw.

One of my friends recommends Sunsilk–and she has gorgeous hair. According to her, the entire line is “great for the amazing low price.” You can visit the site for free samples, which I’ve just ordered (you need to return to the site to get all five).

I’ll post my review on Sunsilk after I try it out. Let me know how it works for you too!

Before going to the dentist the other day, I slathered a bunch of this lotion on my dry hands and arms.

Throughout my whole appointment, the hygenist kept raving about what smelled so good. She asked if I was wearing some kind of body butter. And I’ve noticed every time I use it, I receive compliments galore.

One whiff of this stuff by Nantucket Skincare and you’ll be hooked. It smells so good, you’ll almost want to eat it. It also gives your skin a shimmery glow that looks good with anything you wear, especially short sleeves. Check it out!

I never liked them the first time around (back in the eighties, or was it the seventies?) and now they’re baa–aaccck!

Supposedly they make you look more long and lean, but I just don’t think they look flattering on anyone!

Maybe I just need to get used to them, the same way it took getting used to low-rise jeans…

I was browsing Bazzar for some new spring styles. Despite the weather (-29′c with windchill), I’m excited for soft colours, silky fabrics and skirts! I’m so over bulky sweaters and wintercoats already.

This is what we are gonna see this season.

1. Being peachy

“This season is more about peach,” says makeup artist Tom Pécheux, who used the soft color at Hermès and Derek Lam. “It gives you the appearance of being a bit made-up without looking too girly or bronzy.” Because peach powder contains strong pigments, Pécheux suggests using a light hand to apply one swipe of blush a little below your apples so it doesn’t look too doll-like. Try Chanel Blush Duo Tweed Effect in Tweed Corail ($45).

2. Bright eyes with a touch of metallic

After several seasons of dark, heavy shadows, eyes are lightening up. “The eye is still dramatic,” says makeup artist Diane Kendal, who created the look at Carolina Herrera, “but the colors are softer.” At Dsquared2, makeup artist Val Garland blended a combination of gold shadows over M.A.C. Eye Kohl in Teddy ($14.50) for a metallic smoky eye. Get the look with L’Oréal Paris HIP Metallic Shadow Duo in Gilded ($7). Shimmery gold, silver, and bronze are the winning eye-shadow colors for spring.

3. Full brows are back!! put away the twizzers(well maybe not..)

Strong and defined brows made their way back to the runway this season. “It’s a fresh but handsome look,” notes Tilbury, who created thick, luscious eyebrows à la Brooke Shields at DKNY. Tame full brows with a gel like Laura Mercier Eye Brow Gel ($19). If your brows are uneven or sparse, fill them in with Revlon Brow Fantasy pencil and set them with its tinted gel ($7.50).

4. Flaunt your arms because winter’s gone!!

Stock up on these lacquer bracelets because they’re back!

Elsa Peretti for Tiffany & Co. bangles, $1,400. 800-526-0649.

Bangles

5. New Shades

Round lenses have resurfaced as the must-have shades for warmer days.

Proenza Schouler sunglasses, $310. Barneys New York; 888-8-BARNEYS.

Designers around the world is kicking off another new year with refreshing new ideas and trends. I would love to go to these shows and see them for myself! However, travelling isn’t in my immediate agenda unfortunately, so I will share some info on the shows with you and if you happen to be in the area :-) you can check them out for me and maybe take some pictures!

Here you have the list of events that I find interesting and perhaps, worth going. Since Couture Fashion Week is right in New York, hopefully I can make it to that. For more information on these events, check out my profile on ShesConnected.
