I like to think of myself as a pretty modern girl, hip, cool, open minded and all that….

hrp-4c-humanoid-robot

but robot model replacing the likes of Daria Werbowy, Kate Moss, or Naomi Campbell – No Way!

Apparently the HRP-4C has “battery-powered motors in her body and face, allowing her to imitate the expressions, gait and poses of a supermodel — up to a point”. I guess they are talking about catalogue supermodels, the Target and JC Penny Girls.

The only thing I can see the HRP-4C has in common with the real supermodels is the need to be thinner, since the 158 cm (5 ft 2 inch) high-tech model weighed in at 43 kg (95 lb), a slimmed down version from earlier versions just in time for her catwalk debut at one of Japan’s biggest fashion events.

Shoes, Shoes, and more Shoes!

spring_shoe_colors

I am a shoeaholic and proud to be. This spring you can catch me showing off my ankles in these puppies “Steven by Steve Madden ‘Demetra” in hot Hues like orange or pink … no beige for this fashionista.

fringe_shoes

I also plan on taking a walk on the wild side in Cut-Out Booties or Fringe Shoes such as these “Jessica Simpson ‘Geni’ ”

Designers being as resourceful as they are have found a way to extend the life of booties by cutting away parts of them – bring Fall booties into Spring. And booties aren’t the only Fall carry-over. Apparently, the powers that be want to milk Fall’s fringe trend just a little bit longer, since sandals, flats and heels with fringe accents are hitting the shoe store shelves for Spring.

huarache_sandals

I loved Russell Crowe in Gladiator so of course I also love the Heeled Huarache and Gladiator Sandals which have been featured in the Victoria Secret’s catalogue for the past two years.

Okay so the world is in an economic slump but that doesn’t mean I have to give up my one addiction, does it?

LONG LIVE THE SPRING SHOE!!!

I just saw this on the TLC Channel’s show, “10 Years Younger.”

Now, it’s nothing earth-shattering, but it’s amazing how little things we do can make us look older or younger that we don’t really think about.

When appying your under-eye concealer to hide those dark circles, only apply it to the inside corner of your eye–not the outer edge. That should be obvious, right? Otherwise, the concealer settles into those crows feet and tiny lines around your eyes and makes you look (horror of horrors) OLDER!

All my life I’ve been taking my stepmother’s advice to apply the concealer from the inside of my eye all the way out to my temples so that I don’t look like a raccoon. But I guess it’s time to admit that her method only works when you’re young and wrinkle-free.

There’s been so much buzz about mineral makeup that I can’t wait to try it. I’m really curious if it does what it says.

Some of the infomercials promise a natural, “airbrushed” appearance, and who wouldn’t want that?

Since I don’t have the extra cash to throw away on an expensive product line that might not deliver on its promise, I’m wondering if any of you have tried it and what kind of results you got.

In the meantime, I thought I’d experiment with an affordable makeup line by trying this sample from Maybelline first. I’ll report back to you soon (and please do the same for me).

Lately I’ve been taking a good look at everything I’m spending money on to see if there’s a way I can cut back without sacrificing quality.

I spend a fortune on expensive shampoos and conditioners at the salon because almost every dime-store product I’ve tried has left my hair either weighed down or looking and feeling like straw.

One of my friends recommends Sunsilk–and she has gorgeous hair. According to her, the entire line is “great for the amazing low price.” You can visit the site for free samples, which I’ve just ordered (you need to return to the site to get all five).

I’ll post my review on Sunsilk after I try it out. Let me know how it works for you too!

Lately, a lot of people have been telling me how great my skin looks and asking what I use on my face.

I like to try out all kinds of beauty products and mix it up a bit, using one product line one day, another the next. But my total favorite is the antiaging Skincare Intensive line by Nantucket Skincare–I mentioned this company yesterday when writing about the most delicious smelling body cream you’ll ever use!

The products are a little pricy, but from all the comments I’ve been getting, totally worth it. I started with free samples and liked it so much, I shelled out the extra $$ for full-size containers.

My regimen includes a few drops of the Botanical Bio-peptide Concentrate, followed by Line Filler around the eyes and other line-prone aeas, and then Face Nourisher–a nourishing and hydrating moisturizer that goes on thick but absorbs quickly and feels great.

Contact the company and ask for free samples. And BTW, don’t forget to try the Sugar Smoothie line. I LOVE IT!

Before going to the dentist the other day, I slathered a bunch of this lotion on my dry hands and arms.

Throughout my whole appointment, the hygenist kept raving about what smelled so good. She asked if I was wearing some kind of body butter. And I’ve noticed every time I use it, I receive compliments galore.

One whiff of this stuff by Nantucket Skincare and you’ll be hooked. It smells so good, you’ll almost want to eat it. It also gives your skin a shimmery glow that looks good with anything you wear, especially short sleeves. Check it out!

I never liked them the first time around (back in the eighties, or was it the seventies?) and now they’re baa–aaccck!

Supposedly they make you look more long and lean, but I just don’t think they look flattering on anyone!

Maybe I just need to get used to them, the same way it took getting used to low-rise jeans…

Wow, I can’t believe I’m at the age (or I guess stage) where I actually need a girdle. I’m glad nowadays they refer to these sausage-casing-like garments as “shapewear.” Sounds so much more appealing. And shapewear is available in a wide array of options and styles depending on where your extra fat has landed.

I’ve always been thin and in pretty good shape, and for the most part I’ve gotten my body back, but it still looks like I’m wearing a fanny pack–on the front! So I’ve been looking into different options for smoothing out my style, and here’s one of the best for the money that I’ve come across: The Sensational Shaper by Assets, for $20.

Reviews say it “trims a full inch off waist and hips, and its comfy fit got raves.” It also supposedly eliminates that unflattering “muffin top” at the top of your waist.

Until I can get to the gym more often, I’m going to try it. I’ll let you know if you should buy it.

If you haven’t seen this show, no matter who you are, I’m sure you’ll recognize a little bit of yourself in each and every episode.

We’ve all fallen victim to many of the fashion faux pas that the hosts make fun of (and help remedy, thankfully!), from those tapered jeans you just can’t seem to toss…to thinking you’re still young enough to squeeze into the same styles your friends’ daughters are sporting (I know my instinct is still to head straight for the juniors dept, even though I’m now in my forties!).

I’ve gotten lots of great tips from this show, and if you don’t have time to keep up with what’s current, tune in once in awhile for easy ways to make a better first impression.
